Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Don't see yours? Call us at (916) 800-3076. We're happy to help, even if you're just trying to figure out what's going on.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Elk Grove and serve Elk Grove, Sacramento, and nearby communities including Florin, Vineyard, Rancho Cordova, Galt, and Wilton. See our service areas page.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. HUG Heat & Air is a licensed California contractor, CSLB #1108684, and we're fully insured.
Do you charge for a service call?
Yes, there's a diagnostic fee for repair visits, which covers the technician's time to properly test your system and find the problem. We'll tell you the fee when you book, and we'll always give you the repair price before doing any work.
Do you give free estimates for new systems?
Call us to schedule an in-home consultation for a new system. We'll explain how estimates work when you book.
Do you work on all brands?
Yes. We repair and maintain all major heating and cooling brands, along with most major household appliance brands.
How long does a new AC or furnace last?
In our climate, air conditioners and heat pumps typically last about 12 to 18 years, and gas furnaces often last 18 to 25 years. Regular maintenance makes a big difference.
How often should I change my air filter?
Check it monthly. Most 1-inch filters need changing every 1 to 3 months, and more often during wildfire smoke, if you have pets, or if anyone in the home has allergies.
What temperature should I set my thermostat to in summer?
Many people are comfortable at 76 to 78°F when home. Each degree higher can save energy. Avoid setting it very low to cool faster, because it won't cool any faster and it can make the system run longer than needed.
Why is my AC running but the house isn't cooling?
Common causes are a dirty filter, a frozen coil, low refrigerant, a failed outdoor fan or capacitor, or leaky ductwork. Check the filter and breakers first, then call us. See our AC repair page for more tips.
Is water around my furnace normal?
No. In summer it's usually a clogged condensate drain from the AC coil. In winter it can come from a high-efficiency furnace's condensate line. Either way, call us before it damages your floors or ceiling.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, on approved credit for new systems and larger projects. See our financing page.
Do you have a maintenance plan?
Yes, the HUG Comfort Club includes two tune-ups per year, priority scheduling, and member savings on repairs.
Do you service commercial buildings?
Yes. We service rooftop units, split systems, and ductless systems for offices, retail, restaurants, and more. See commercial HVAC.
What appliances do you repair?
Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges, cooktops, and built-in microwaves. See appliance repair.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Call our office and we'll confirm the payment methods we accept and our financing options.
Too hot, too cold, or just not right?
